Mike Martino “Landscape Series”

This page is dedicated to the recent work of  MIKE MARTINO   aka Blue Fig “Head Honcho”.

Mike’s work is driven from captured nuances  he sees in his daily life. These nuances are simple observations like the way a book is angled on a table, or the texture of tree bark, color within a bowl of cereal.  He collects these images in his sketch book and notes them much like a visual vocabulary to be used at alter point in his artwork.  When Mike starts on a piece of artwork  he pulls from his collected “sketch vocabulary”  as he  twists and turns them and applies these in a way to create a image. His works vary from landscape & still life’s to more abstract space-scape’s. Mike creates one image that is assembled from many sketches and ideas. Mike crops and limits the view of the image suggesting  the viewer to continue on with their imagination.  He works in painterly silkscreen mono-types method then prints defining images over top of those mono-prints thus creating unique images in his edition. His editions tend to be labeled  “E.V.” which stands for editions variable.  Stating the each work is in a printmaking edition bu t yet varies through the monotype.  When you have the opportunity to see Mikes art be sure to ask to see the variety of colors and pallet choices within one of the editions.

All art work is for sale and prices and framing cost available on request, prices vary from $50  up to $700. Keep in mind that within my editions each print is numbered and is unique due to the mono-print process I use. That being said there are various colors and pallets in each edition so ask if you like to see others.

Mike uses a very unique  mono-print process in his work. These mono-prints are created in a screen print process where he paints directly onto the screen by filling the entire screen with various colors he achieves a very painterly colorful mono-print. He repeats this process several times to create an editions of prints each having a unique color scheme and pallet. The images below are some of the mono-prints prior to getting the key image print over top.
